How We Serve

Worship Services

Worship is a vital part of one’s spiritual health. When we worship God, we are acknowledging that He is worthy of praise, honor, and glory. Our worship services offer a place to study the Bible, worship God, and grow together in a community built on the extensions of God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Most worship services are held weekly, usually on Sunday. There are also weekday and evening activities, such as prayer groups, family events, lunch groups, youth clubs, and meetings for seniors.

The Salvation Army Potomac Division (serving communities across Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C.) is answering and sharing God’s call, more effectively than ever. Watch a video on how they explain their new, unique approach to growing and engaging church members in their communities.

Spiritual Counseling

In addition to regular worship services, The Salvation Army provides a network of chaplains who help those in need find a healing process. Whether it is counseling during a natural disaster or providing daily comfort for those who struggle with spiritual, psychological, and interpersonal conflicts, our chaplains can help you navigate the spiritual healing process and enjoy a growing communion with God. No matter what your beliefs are, they will happily answer any questions about God, faith, and spirituality.

Similarly, our Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) and Harbor Lights Centers provide spiritual, social, and emotional healing, without discrimination, to drug addicts and alcoholics who have lost the ability to manage the stresses of daily life.

Correctional Ministry

Jesus said, “When I was in prison, you came to visit me.” It is with that same spirit we provide a wide range of spiritual healing outreach to those who are incarcerated to return to productive lives.

For example, since the 1920s The Salvation Army Southern Territories’ Corrections Ministry has provided programs to encourage growth and support in the spiritual, educational, and emotional lives of inmates. From Bible correspondence courses to prerelease job training programs, we take God’s love behind bars to help the healing process with a renewed life purpose. Together we work to restore hope to inmates, their families, and their communities.

Women's Ministries

The Salvation Army Women’s Ministries department exists to give Godly leaders resources for encouraging, supporting, disciple-ing, and training women of all ages, life stages, and backgrounds to follow the mission of Jesus Christ.

We believe this happens best as women gather together in the name of God to impact their family, their community, and their world.

The Salvation Army’s 11 Articles of Faith

  • The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice
  • There is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship
  • There are three persons in the Godhead - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory
  • In the person of Jesus Christ, the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man
  • Our first parents were created in a state of innocence, but by their disobedience, they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall, all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God
  • The Lord Jesus Christ has, by His suffering and death, made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever believes in Him may be saved
  • Repentance toward God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary to salvation
  • We are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself
  • Continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ
  • It is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
  • In the immortality of the soul, in the resurrection of the body, in the general judgment at the end of the world, in the eternal happiness of the righteous, and in the endless punishment of the wicked
We desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, wherever and whenever we can.

We desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, wherever and whenever we can.

The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Our message is based on the Bible, our ministry is motivated by the love of God, and our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ as we meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Every program we offer is rooted in our passion to serve God by serving the lost, the vulnerable, the needy, the poor, the hurting, the helpless, and the hopeless.
