Hilco Global Donates Over $975,000 Worth of New Apparel to The Salvation Army

Aug 16, 2021

ALEXANDRIA, V.A. (August 16, 2021) — The Salvation Army, the country’s largest privately-funded, direct-service nonprofit organization, announced today that it had received a donation of over $975,000 of new apparel from Hilco Global, a privately held diversified financial services company.  The items, which are mostly new children’s sporting and leisure clothes, will be given to children in need during “Back-to-School” distribution events.

“We are incredibly grateful for Hilco Global’s generous donation because we know it will help families who are struggling to stay in their homes, put food on the table, and provide for their children,” said Commissioner Kenneth G. Hodder, National Commander of The Salvation Army. “With one-in-seven children already living in poverty and an end to the eviction moratorium coming, thousands of families could face homelessness in the coming months. Access to free school clothes and supplies will help parents focus their resources on other expenses—like rent and utilities—while empowering their children to start off well in the new school year.”

Jeffrey B. Hecktman, CEO and Founder of Hilco Global, said, “Helping families, especially children, is a key pillar of Hilco Global’s philanthropic mission. We are delighted to work with The Salvation Army and the communities they serve with new apparel items that are needed to set students and their families up for a successful school year. With The Salvation Army’s impressive network and leadership, we are able to distribute the clothing efficiently to get it to the children and families that need it the most in time for the “Back-to-School” season.”

With over 140 years of experience in the U.S. serving our most vulnerable communities during their greatest times of need, The Salvation Army has been at the forefront of helping communities deal with the fallout of the pandemic. In 2020, The Salvation Army provided an all-time high of services, including more than 225 million meals and more than 9 million nights of shelter to families experiencing homelessness. They also modified their children’s services and have continued to assist families struggling to provide for their children. The Salvation Army will distribute the clothes donated by Hilco Global, along with other items that children need during the school year, at back-to-school events in Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and New Jersey in August.
